Graham Bloem
Graham Bloem is the Owner, CEO, and Training Director of Specialty Dog Training™, a leader in the field of canine training and rehabilitation. With decades of hands-on experience across the West Coast and nationally, Graham has dedicated his life to enhancing the bond between dogs and their owners. He has successfully rehabilitated thousands of dogs, offering them a second chance, and has played a pivotal role in mentoring and certifying future dog trainers.
Graham’s expertise spans all levels of obedience training, protection dogs, behavior modification, aggression cases, and service dog training. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the 10News Leadership Award, Waggy Award for Animal Welfare, American Red Cross Real Heroes Award, Honeywell Life Safety Award, CBS8 News Change It Up Award, and a nomination for the Lead San Diego Community Spotlight Award.
A graduate of Animal Behavior College and trained under master trainers, Graham has impacted thousands of dogs’ lives through his training programs. He is also a passionate public speaker and consultant, sharing his knowledge to help others connect deeply with their canine companions.
In 2012, Graham co-founded Shelter to Soldier, a CA 501(c)(3) nonprofit with his wife, Kyrié, and friend, Krys Holc. The organization pairs service-trained rescue dogs with veterans suffering from PTSD at no charge, exemplifying Graham’s commitment to both animal welfare and community service.
Beyond his professional achievements, Graham is a devoted husband to Kyrié, who is a creative force at Specialty Dog Training and Vice President of Shelter to Soldier. Together, they share their lives with their four children—Ethan, Aubrie, Aspen, and Kingston—and two beloved dogs, Spirit and River. Graham’s passion for dogs is matched only by his dedication to helping people build lasting, meaningful relationships with their pets.

Kyrié Bloem
Kyrie is the Co-Owner and Vice President of Specialty Dog Training™ and Shelter to Soldier. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology and Spanish, and a Masters Degree in Nutritional Sciences. Kyrié is a passionate dog rescue and veteran advocate who works behind the scenes helping run the business. Kyrié is constantly in motion working in all facets of our organizations, with a key focus on community partnerships and development. She is someone that wears many hats well and is an asset.

Nicky Moore
Director of Dog Training & Operations
Nicky is our Director of Training & Operations and a graduate of Animal Behavior College’s Professional Dog Training Certification program. Originally from Cincinnati, OH, Nicky has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. After years of training her own dogs, pet-sitting, and working with animals at a veterinary hospital, she decided to transition her lifelong love of dogs, and over 10 years of customer service experience into a dog training and leadership career. Nicky is a talented dog trainer and excellent leader with a wealth of knowledge in this field. When she’s not leading this pack, she loves training and hiking with her Dutch Shepherd, Bodhi and Pocket Pittie, Swayze.

Cassie Bostrom
Cassie is a dedicated and experienced dog trainer with a passion for helping both animals and people. With an impressive six years of expertise under her belt, she brings a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience to her work. Cassie is a proud graduate of the Animal Behavior College (ABC), having completed her certification in 2021.
Her journey into the world of dog training was inspired by her own furry companions. Cassie shares her life with two lovable dogs – a dynamic German Shepherd Pit Bull Mix, serving as a therapy dog for our charity partner, Shelter To Soldier, and a charming Dachshund. The bond with her dogs, particularly her very first dog, Harley, ignited her passion for training. Harley, a young German Shepherd Dog, was not only exceptionally intelligent but also a bundle of energy and sass during the first year of her life.
Cassie’s dedication to canine companionship and her desire to make a positive impact on both animals and their human counterparts drive her work. Her journey from being a dog owner to a seasoned dog trainer reflects her commitment to enhancing the lives of pets and their families through effective training techniques and a genuine love for animals. Whether she’s working with therapy dogs or helping pet owners navigate the challenges of training, Cassie’s years of experience and heartfelt dedication make her a trusted and invaluable member of Specialty Dog Training.

Dahlton Seel
Meet Dahlton, a dog trainer whose journey is inspired by a deep sense of respect and admiration for the incredible bond and partnership between K9s and their handlers. With five years of experience in the dog training industry and two years of dedicated service with our company, Dahlton’s story is one of inspiration and unwavering commitment.
Dahlton’s passion for working with dogs was ignited by a mentor who was a K9 handler in the Marine Corps. Drawn to the footsteps of his mentor, Dahlton embarked on a journey that reflects not only his professional growth but also his commitment to upholding the values instilled by those who paved the way.
For Dahlton, the essence of dog training lies in the profound bond between the K9 and the handler. Having witnessed military and police dogs save countless lives while risking their own, Dahlton is driven by a sense of duty and reciprocity. He wholeheartedly believes in doing the same for his dogs. In Dahlton’s world, the relationship between handler and dog is not just a job but a mutual commitment to each other’s well-being.
His dedication extends beyond training techniques and commands; it’s about fostering a connection that goes beyond the surface. Dahlton’s ethos revolves around the belief that the strength of the bond between a handler and their K9 partner is the key to unlocking the full potential of both.

Danielle Boyer
Introducing Danielle, a seasoned professional dog trainer whose journey is rooted in a lifelong love for dogs. Growing up surrounded by Boxers and Great Danes in Poway, CA, Danielle’s early exposure to canine companions sparked a passion for pet care and training that has become the driving force in her career.
In 2017, Danielle embarked on her professional journey at Kahoots Pet Store, where she honed her skills as a dog trainer. Her commitment to excellence led her to complete a mentorship under a renowned pet dog and working dog trainer in San Diego, CA, further solidifying her expertise in the field.
For Danielle, dog training is not just a job; it’s a dynamic puzzle to solve. She finds joy in addressing behavioral challenges and witnessing the remarkable transformations in both dogs and their relationships with their handlers. Danielle’s dedication to education extends beyond the training sessions, fostering a deeper understanding between dogs and their human companions.

Gabby Harden
With nearly a decade of professional dog training experience, Gabby specializes in a diverse range of training areas, including shaping protection dogs, service dogs, and beloved pets into well-rounded companions. With vast experience in finishing dogs with advanced on and off leash obedience, and a deep understanding of dog behavior, Gabby’s commitment to her craft is evident. Gabby prioritizes ongoing education to ensure she stays at the forefront of the dog training and behavior world. Having prepared numerous canines in advanced dog sports, Gabby thrives on refining a dog’s natural drive and skills to the highest standard. Gabby’s proficiency extends to the dynamic world of pet dog training, canine sports, protection, scent detection, and tracking disciplines. Fueled by a lifelong passion cultivated since her teenage years, Gabby is dedicated to fostering harmony and effective communication between owners and their cherished companions.

Tom Patterson
Introducing Tom, a distinguished dog trainer whose remarkable journey is characterized by a profound dedication to canine companionship and a wealth of experience in various high-stakes roles. Tom’s journey began with four years in the United States Marines, where he served as a Military Working Dog handler and trainer. Specializing in explosives and narcotics detection, tracking, and patrol/bite work, Tom worked alongside Border Patrol, Police, and the FBI, responding to bomb threats on the border of Mexico. His expertise even led him to undertake 12 Secret Service missions, conducting bomb sweeps for the President.
Tom’s excellence in K9 training was evident from the start, as he emerged as the top dog in both K9 school and the pre-deployment course. His skills were further honed as a trainer at American K9, where he trained detection dogs deployed to Afghanistan, bomb dogs for Disney, and drug dogs for sheriff and police departments in Florida. Tom’s expertise extended to training bite/patrol dogs and tracking dogs for the same agencies, showcasing his versatility and proficiency in various aspects of K9 training.
Tom possesses a deep love for dogs, treating each one with the care and compassion as if they were his own. His philosophy centers around discovering what brings joy to a dog’s day and working towards that positive energy.

Ethan Bloem
Enrollment Advisor • Marketing Assistant • Content Creator
Ethan Bloem brings a unique blend of lifelong experience, creative talent, and business acumen to his role at Specialty Dog Training. As the son of SDT’s founders, Ethan quite literally grew up in the world of professional dog training—sharing his home with hundreds of dogs that came through for training over the years. From an early age, he was immersed in every aspect of the business, gaining first hand mentorship in canine behavior, husbandry, client service, and small business operations.
In addition to his deep-rooted experience in the industry, Ethan also contributes to the family’s nonprofit, Shelter to Soldier, volunteering from childhood through current day. His ability to understand both the human and canine side of every placement makes him an exceptional asset to the SDT team.
Ethan graduated high school summa cum laude with a 4.6 GPA, and went on to attend the University of San Diego (USD) before deciding to pursue his passion for dance and choreography. At just 16, he appeared on NBC’s World of Dance, earning national recognition as a talented hip hop dancer and choreographer. His creative background complements his sharp eye for marketing, branding, and engaging content creation.
Today, Ethan supports SDT clients as an Enrollment Advisor, guiding them through services and helping match families with the right training programs or protection companions. He also plays a key role in SDT’s marketing and content strategy, capturing the heart of the brand through storytelling, social media, and video production.
Driven, articulate, and deeply passionate about helping people and dogs, Ethan embodies the SDT mission. He puts the needs of clients and their dogs first—a value instilled in him from a young age and one that continues to guide his work every day.

Matt Nelson
Kennel Supervisor
In his pivotal role, Matt goes beyond the ordinary, overseeing the comprehensive health and well-being of every furry resident. His certification as a vet assistant equips him with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the diverse needs of our canine guests, ensuring they receive top-notch care.
What makes Matt truly exceptional is his diverse background working with the most delicate of animals, including rabbits and ducks. This experience has shaped him into a compassionate and attentive caregiver, capable of handling the unique requirements of each dog and their unique personalities. His versatility adds a valuable dimension to our team, ensuring that all dogs receive the specialized care they deserve. Matt’s journey in the training industry began with his own dog back in high school, marking the start of a lifelong passion. From those early days, his love for animals and commitment to their well-being have only deepened. Now, in his current role as Kennel Supervisor, Matt finds immense fulfillment in overseeing the wellness of our facility. Matt’s commitment to the well-being of animals is not only evident in his professional endeavors but also in the loving home he provides for Misha, his adorable rescue Pitbull.

Aylin Hernandez
Aylin was raised in South Carolina and moved here with her husband who currently serves in the Marine Corps. She grew up with dreams of becoming a veterinarian and working as a kennel tech has provided heaps of hands-on experience. This allows her to pursue her studies in January of 2022. Aylin currently has a family of 8 dogs consisting of 4 chihuahuas, a Belgian Malinois puppy, and a Catahoula leopard. Her devotion to animal care inspires everyone to push forward as a strong team member.

Luke Swart
Luke has been around dogs for as long as he can remember. He is a dedicated animal care provider on the team. Luke shares “Working at SDT means so much to me because being around animals and taking care of them for a living has been a dream of mine since I was little. SDT allows me to improve the lives of both dogs and people while doing something I love. I really enjoy seeing how much the dogs grow in just the short amount of time they are here and how different they are from the beginning of their training to the end.” In his free time, he enjoys surfing, working on his car, and playing video games.
